This multi-purpose arena was designed for the Lisbon Expo 1998. The aerodynamic shape of the roof has been designed as an upturned ship’s hull in commemoration of the Portuguese maritime history. The laminated wood structure is made out ribs that have clear spans of 116 and 160 metres. This multiple award winning project has been designed in order to consume low levels of energy and has used environmentally friendly materials such as the wood structure. This project was designed whilst at SOM.
